President's Message:

Date:  January 2010

Dear Friend:

mauricio leivaUnited Latinos is a newly reorganized private non-profit organization dedicated to providing information and education about the importance of participation in the democratic and civic processes.  United Latinos is excited to inform you that we are the vehicle for change, but we need your help. We need your commitment and participation to make California and our local communities a better place for all of us.  As we begin this new decade, in a world of diminishing resources, it is now more critical than ever to become involved in the civic process.

Changing demographic and active participation in elections will generate change and those Politicians seeking elected offices will not be able to ignore the Latino vote.

Recent statistics:

  • Nationwide there are over 21 million Latinos registered to vote, but approximately 9.3 million voted during the last presidential election.

  • California we comprise up to 35% of the population, but only 58 % of Latino adults are registered to vote; of those registered, approximately 26% actually vote.

If every eligible registered Latino voted, we would have considerable power and every politician would take a serious look at our issues. Latinos should be driving the agenda during this decade; we should be increasing our presence in elected offices, high-level government posts, and in boardrooms of corporate America.  Our goal is to ensure that elected officials address issues impacting all Latinos in California.

You are receiving this letter because we need you to become an active member of United Latinos. Please return the attached application along with your annual dues.  We need your support to achieve our objectives and vision as outlined in the attached brochure. We look forward to your continued participation at United Latinos events and community forums.

Most sincerely,

 Mauricio E. Leiva

Mauricio E. Leiva

President
